TC Evan Update
Bula to all of our Nukubati Family
Vinaka for all your love and wishes that we have received through email and facebook.
TC Evan passed us about 100km to the North and sent our way very strong winds and rain. We were for the most part shielded from the storm by our hill and mangroves and really the worst of it was when the cyclone had passed when the wind was blowing directly on shore. We had guests who braved the storm in their rooms, and we must thank them very much for all their help in preparing for the cyclone and in the clean up.
We had a storm surge coinciding with a king tide the next morning which brought the waterline all the way up to the steps of the pavilion, but thankfully no rooms were flooded and the damage done from the cyclone was mainly the gardens.
We are thankfully relatively unscathed, and have not missed a beat, remaining open for business. Please check our facebook page
for real time updates.
Our thoughts and best wishes go out to all of the people in Fiji who has lost their homes at this time of year, and please send us an email if you'd like to know how to help out. The western parts of Fiji were the worst affected areas, especially around the Lautoka area and in the Yasawa and Mamanuca Islands.
Again, Vinaka for your love and wishes and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from your Nukubati family!
Bula again , long time no blog
17 August 2011
Warm greetings from Nukubati... its been a long time since my last blog ... many reasons for not blogging ... but that doesnt really matter ... here we are. We have been very busy at the resort with many visitors in the first half of this year. The diving has been superb, the snorkeling awesome, the fishing great and this year we have been offering Tatavu - the Fijian Pikiniki(picnic) out at Vatumaqila every week - and that has been an absolute 'hit' with one and all. To taste fish that fresh - is a mouth watering experience that ruins one for life - as you keep looking for fish that is going to taste that great no matter who is going to cook that fish for you whereever you go - sorry folks - thats what we do at Nukubati - spoil you rotten!!!
Also we have had a lot of visitor this year from much closer to home - from Australia and New Zealand - thanks for coming - its nice to have our close neighbours here - perhaps the really cold winters have something to do with this influx or the strength of the AUD or the fact that the Great Sea Reef is getting known out there - I guess it doesnt really matter at the end of the day - for us its nice to finally get you to come and visit us up here in the Northern Islands of Fiji.
Our North American visitors continue to support us - this market really dropped off for us in the second half of 2009 and 2010, but we feel they are returning to Fiji and especially back to Nukubati - yaaayyy. We have had a lot of honeymooners ~ and guys if you are reading this - thanks for staying at Nukubati Private Island, Great Sea Reef and we hope you will think of returning to celebrate a special anniversary.
Ok now that I am back blogging .. there is more to write - about the great octopus hunts this season and the kind donations from guests to the school - pix and stories to follow.
Moce mada and you all take care.
Jenny and all the staff at Nukubati
